How Do I Make Beer Can Chicken On A Gas Grill?

I want to make beer can chicken on my gas grill, but I have one of those shelves in the grill to grill buns, I can't remove it so I'm not able to close down the lid, the chicken sits too high on the beer can. Can I still cook it without closing the lid?

    You will never get the chicken to cook with the lid open. Your best bet would be to roast the chicken in the oven. You can still do the beer can, just make sure to set the chicken on a sheet tray or baking dish.
